| SQL injection attacks | We have noticed a recent increase in SQL injection attacks and as a result several of our customer's web sites and databases have been hacked. We therefore strongly urge all customers to review the security of their sites and code and make sure they are not vulnerable to these attacks.
We wish to make it very clear that these attacks and the resulting damage are nothing to do with the security of our systems or network. The vulnerability is within customer's own code and this is where you must take appropriate measures to protect yourself from such things as cross site scripting, SQL injection, form spamming and the likes. The consequences of not protecting yourself from these type of attacks include:- Your web site can be hacked/defaced or turned into an illegal phishing site, the data in your database can be stolen (including customer details, credit cards etc), your web site visitors could be scammed or redirected to another web site, credit card details can be stolen and more. While there is nothing your host can do to stop your web site being hacked if it has these vulnerabilities, we can offer our programming services to review your code and find any potential security holes and optionally try and plug them for you. This is of course a chargeable service. Please contact us for more details. Please also note that restoring backups of hacked databases or web sites is also chargeable at £25 + VAT per restore. |
